About
UCLA
UCLA is distinguished as
the only campus among the nation’s top ten research universities that was
established in the 20th century. Its mission is to foster graduate and
postgraduate scholarship, research and public service. It is in the NIH
Top Ten in terms of federal contract and grant support of research and
development. Known for academic excellence, many of its programs are rated
among the best in the nation, some among the best in the world. UCLA’s
outstanding libraries, health care facilities, performing arts, continuing
education programs and volunteer outreach efforts by students, faculty,
staff and alumni make it a leader in service to the entire Southern
California region. Some 165 buildings on 411 acres house 13 colleges and
schools and serve nearly 35,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
An important tradition at
UCLA is the continuing dialogue between clinical and basic scientists
which, along with the quality of research, commitment to training,
availability of research funding and physical resources, have resulted in
many productive research projects.
